It's Working!

Well, I've somehow managed to lose 16 pounds since the beginning of the year. Not too shabby! I just hope I'm able to keep losing, and then to keep the weight off!

In the process of losing weight, I've been learning a lot about food and nutrition. It's really amazing the things we eat, how they are sooooo not good for us. But, I'm learning, and I'm starting to make better overall choices.

I've added to my daily fiber intake considerably. Once I started tracking how much fiber I was getting in a day, I realized that I was getting anywhere from 2 grams to less than 10 grams a day. They recommend getting 25-35 a day, minimum! Huge difference there. So, I did a little research and started to learn which foods were high in fiber. Adding just a few things like multi-grain English Muffins or tortillas has gotten me to where I'm now getting anywhere from 25+ without really trying. One word of caution though folks...when upping your fiber intake, do it slowly. It can cause some serious gas! Sorry if that's TMI. LOL. I've got it under control, but I did a gradual increase, not like what I had thought about.

This week, I'm going to try soy milk instead of regular milk. I've been drinking 1% milk for quite a while. I am lactose intolerant though, and I'm curious if I can help with that by switching to soy. The soy milk is very comparable to the 1% in calorie and fat content, but I believe that it has more protein in it. Hopefully it'll work out. I'll know in a couple of days.

More later.

Steps Towards a New Me

Well folks, I talked recently about trying to get healthy. And you know what? I think it's happening.

My Mom and I have been working out together and keeping track of how we are doing with eating. So far, in just about 5 weeks, I've lost 12 pounds and she has lost about 13 pounds. Not too shabby. We've had a number of set-backs, at least as far as working out is concerned, but we're working through it. Our workouts are becoming more frequent and more intense, and we're feeling better after each workout!

I'm not only trying to get healthy physically though...I'm also working on getting healthy on the inside too. And for me, a lot of that is through writing. It is something that I have a true desire for, and I always push it aside because I'm so busy with other things. Last semester, being in a Creative Writing class allowed me the freedom to write, because it was for school. But now, I'm writing pretty regularly, and I'm doing it just because I want to. I'm thinking about applying to an MFA program for Creative Writing after I graduate, and so this can also help me to build up a portfolio of writings to submit for the application process.

Anyways, I'll keep you all updated on how it is going.

Rock Star 3 on the Horizon?

Well kids, it could possibly, maybe, finally be happening! According to this article, Mark Burnett is in talks with some bands about the possibility of making our hopes a reality.

There is still no guarantee, so now is a great time to get involved with RockBandLounge.com's Big Letter Writing Campaign and let the Powers That Be know that you want more Rock Star on your TV! Let's innundate them with letters, folks. Be sure that they know we want more, and we want it now!
