David Cook and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

Last night on American Idol, the kids got to choose songs from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's list of 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll. This is a phenomenal list of songs. You can check it out if you haven't already seen it. I'm sure that they couldn't get the rights to every song on the list, not by any stretch of the imagination. But even without that, this list had to be impressive.

And what kind of a theme week could be better suited for Cookie, right? You would think. I definitely thought so. It seems like he did too...and maybe put a bit too much pressure on himself. I wanted him to just knock my socks off!!! And he did well...but he wasn't GREAT last night. I really felt like he was just thinking too freaking hard the whole night.

First up, he did Hungry Like the Wolf by Duran Duran. He could have done some AMAZING things with this song! He could have completely changed it, rocked it up a bit more and taken off a touch of that pop edge. But he didn't. He sang it well, don't get me wrong. Cookie, even on a bad night, is head and shoulders above the rest of those kids, at least to me. It just wasn't...spectacular. Check it out and see for yourself.




At least he was hot as hell! And those eye fucks? Wow. I will never complain about that, let me tell you. He just seemed a bit subdued in his performance, and he didn't own that song. That's what we've come to expect from him...that he'll take a song...ANY song...and make it into something that so completely suits him that we can't imagine anyone else doing that song. This one...this one didn't quite manage that.

So I was nervous as heck for his next song. I knew that he was going to be doing Baba O'Riley by The Who. And that is one of my favorite songs of all time. Not only that, but we heard it done on Rock Star a few times, and it was FABULOUS. If you haven't seen Jordis Unga do it before, here it is. Really impressive. That was the first song performed by the first performer on the first episode of Rock Star: INXS. That was what got me hooked. And Cookie was going to do the same song. Nervous doesn't even begin to describe what I was feeling.

I needn't have worried so much. He did make changes to this one! And those changes worked, at least for me. He still seemed a bit...off. Like he was thinking too hard, and still trying to shake off that first performance. But he really nailed this one. The ending is a bit funky, but overall, a really solid performance by Cookie. REALLY solid. I love it. And then I could relax. Watch and see for yourself.




Oh...but wait...I couldn't relax yet. Because it was just an odd night on AI. Archie turned in probably the two most solid performances he's had in months, which would definitely earn him a ton of votes. Jason Castro had a really bad night, and earned some of the harshest criticism given by the judges to anyone at this point in the competition, which definitely would get his fans seriously mobilized to vote. And Syesha...she sexed up her look, she cried...she did everything humanly possible in order to get any votes she could get. So Cookie could be in trouble. I had to vote like a banshee yet again.

So of course, I spent a solid two hours of hitting redial on my phone. Please don't let him go home tonight. I need to see him more next week...and the week after. And he needs to win.

That is all for now, folks. I'll be biting my fingernails and ripping my hair out until tonight when Ryan tells Cookie to go and have a seat on the couch because he is safe.

Jordis's Reign Comes to an End

At RockBandLounge.com's Rock Star: All Stars competition, Jordis Unga had been crowned the new Queen of the Bottom Three, taking over that title from Suzie McNeil. However, she has now been voted out after countless visits to the Bottom Three. She finally just ran out of steam and momentum.

While she still hasn't released any new music since her stint on Rock Star: INXS, you can still check out her myspace page to stay abreast of what she is up to.

Sad Day for Sobbing Sweet Suzie

That's right. The fantastically talented "Sweet Suzie McNeil" was eliminated this week from RockBandLounge.com's Rock Star: All Stars competition. And while she may not be all that upset about it, or sobbing about it, I certainly am. She was my favorite out of all of them, by a large margin. Yeah, I love JD with INXS. And yeah, I love Storm with her Balls. And of course I love dirtyPhil with Lennex. I love a lot of them.

But Suzie was my girl. I'm going to be mourning her elimination for a while. I still like all of the singers left in Rock Star: All Stars. And I love a handful of the ones that are left. But Suzie was the one that I really wanted to see in this thing a long time.

Double/Double Week

This week was Double/Double week at RockBandLounge.com's Rock Star: All Stars competition. Each singer put up one Rock Star performance and one non-Rock Star performance...and out of the Bottom 3, two singers were cut from the competition.

So, now it is time to say goodbye to the fabulously talented dirtyPhil Ritchie from Season Two, and husky voiced Deanna Johnston from Season One. It was a hard week for me personally, because all three of the singers in the Bottom 3 were amongst my overall favorites in the competition, so I knew that we would be losing two of them at once. I suppose I will eventually get over it. LOL.

Anyways, you need to check these two out! You can listen to dirtyPhil singing with his band Lennex at their MySpace page. While you're there, be sure to listen to their new song, Thank You and Goodbye. I really, truly love that song. I've blogged about it before. So listen to it! Bye Bye Ty

Another week is finished in RockBandLounge.com's Rock Star: All Stars competition. This week saw three of the competitors from Season One reunited in the Bottom Three, and Ty Taylor is the latest casualty.

Ty was joined in the Bottom Three this week once again by Jordis Unga, and also by Deanna Johnston. This is two weeks in a row now that Jordis has fallen victim to not receiving enough votes. With both Ty and Patrice, on their third visit to the Bottom Three, they were cut from the competition. If you don't want that to happen to Jordis (or to Deanna, or to any of the contestants) you need to VOTE. The only thing that can keep your favorites in the competition is having fans who vote.

Next week is Double/Double week. Each contestant will put out a Rock Star performance coupled with a Non Rock Star performance (cover or original) for the fans to vote on. This could be the first time a number of people see and hear what some of these competitors are capable of outside of the constraints of Rock Star, so it should be very exciting.

Wave Goodbye to Patrice...

This week, RBL's Rock Star: All Stars Competition said goodbye to Patrice Pike. Falling into the Bottom 3 for the third week in a row, it seems that voters have decided that they are bored with her. She may have had spectacular vocals, but sometimes her passion didn't come through in performing the covers required by Rock Star.

Other members of the Bottom 3 this week were Ty Taylor (making his second appearance in the Bottom 3) and Jordis Unga. They have both survived for at least another week of the competition, but if you want to be sure they stay in it, you have to vote!
